The case of the HIV+ women who were humiliated and pilloried by the authorities and the media, in the spring of 2012, is not only a horrific case of degrading of the human decency. It constitutes the symbolization of the downfall of democracy in Greece – a moment where all protections assured by a state of law and by the entire structure of the democratic constitution of a state crumbled like mere illusions. This downfall is the subject of the documentary “RUINS – The chronicle of an HIV witch-hunt”, that will be screened for the public next Sunday, September 15, in the Benaki Museum.
UNFOLLOW is proud of participating in the effort to reveal the entire truth concerning this shocking case of the penalization of HIV in Greece. The documentary, directed by Zoe Mavroudi, is the opportunity for citizens who were misguided by their elected representatives and the media, to learn the precise truth about the prosecution of HIV+ women who were brought in by the Greek Police, submitted to obligatory HIV testing, held in custody on account of felony, and finally pilloried when their pictures and personal data were made public by the media, just a few days before the national elections of May 6, 2012.
The documentary’s premiere, open to the public, will take place on Sunday, September 15, at 7 pm, at the Benaki Museum (Pireos 138 & Andronikou str., Athens). This is its official trailer:
